Public Safety

The Pen Com Center has three full time radio console positions, one call taker position and one supervisor position to provide emergency dispatch services for police, fire and medical emergency responders.

Pen Com CenterThis is an enhanced 911 county in partnership with Qwest and CenturyTel telephone companies. The county is Wireless Phase II compliant. The center installed a Positron Power911 telephone system in May 2003 along with a Dictaphone Freedom 24 hour recorder.

The Freedom platform provides instant call checks for both radio and telephone frequencies at the fingertips of the communications officers at every position. Both UHF and VHF radio systems provide dedicated radio frequencies for most agencies. Motorola radio equipment is installed in Watson Furniture Systems consoles for an efficient, ergonomic work environment.

State-of-the-art computer-aided dispatch software based on an IBM AS400 computer platform assists the communications officers in performing their work. All upgrades provide the essential equipment components for a modern, highly functional and comfortable environment.

Communications Officers process over of 32,400 9-1-1 calls and over 200,000 business (non-emergency) calls per year. Last year, this resulted in over 40,000 events where PenCom dispatched police, fire or medical personnel.

Peninsula Communications Center is progressive in its philosophy and management practices. If you would like further information, contact us at or phone (360) 417-4911.
