Primary Job Duties:

This position performs a variety of confidential legal and administrative duties for the City’s Legal Department.  Responsibilities include office management and scheduling; management of the Legal Department Budget; preparing drafts of correspondence, memos, pleadings, legal briefs, ordinances, resolutions, contracts, and other documents; and significant involvement in the City’s process for responding to public records requests.

  •  Serves as confidential legal assistant to the City Attorney and Assistant City Attorney
  • Serves as office manager of the Legal Department.
  • Manages the budget for the Legal Department; processes bills and statements for payment.
  • Prepares drafts of correspondence, memos, ordinances, resolutions, contracts, pleadings, case files, and other legal papers and documents requiring knowledge of legal format, terminology, and procedures.   
  • Understands the legal issues arising under the Public Records Act and assists with the workload involving public records by providing support to the Public Records Officer (PRO), corresponding with the requestor, analyzing responsive records, redaction of privileged material, preparing privilege logs, assembling, and releasing documents responsive to the request and acting as PRO in the PRO’s absence. 
  • Coordinates with outside attorneys and law firms to schedule meetings and conferences; to schedule court appearances and hearings; and to provide other assistance as needed.   
  • Is self-directed and able to work without close supervision.  Is responsible to self-schedule work to accomplish deadlines.  

 Salary:  $61,393.28 - $73,361.60 annually ($29.516 - $35.27 per hour). Benefits include medical insurance with City contribution to Health Savings Account, and dental and vision insurance; Employee Assistance Program: life insurance; long-term disability insurance and Washington State Retirement (PERS).
