On Thursday, February 17 2022, at about 3:15 PM Port Angeles Police Officers responded to an incident near 8th and "A." Additional details included that a suspect was in the street blocking traffic and when a victim vehicle stopped the suspect said that he had a gun and demanded the victims' car keys. The victims drove around the suspect and called 911.
When Officers arrived they approached the suspect and initiated a conversation with him. The suspect jammed his hand in his pocket, announced that he had a gun, and aggressively approached the officers. The suspect punched one officer in the chest and was then subdued and arrested by the Officers who used open hand techniques to stop the attack.
The Officers confirmed that the suspect did not have a gun after all, and the suspect was booked into the Clallam County Jail, The prosecutor is reviewing the case. The Officers involved in the incident are in the photos below. PAPD has referred the case for Attempted Robbery and Assault on and Officer (felony).
