[ARCHIVED] Telecommunicator Week (April 10-16, 2022)

PAPD Police Blotter 2

Tonight at the regular meeting City Council Mayor Kate Dexter will read a City Council Proclamation recognizing our PenCom 9-1-1 Communications Officers (also know as Telecommunicators) and Telecommunicator Week.

As an early recognition for our Telecommunicators, Washington Senate Bill 5555 (the Public Safety Telecommunicator certification, training and reclassification bill) was signed by Governor Inslee last week   Public Safety Telecommunicators are now recognized as the First, First-Responders in Washington State!

This bill adds professionalization and recognition to our already highly trained and skilled  9-1-1 Communications Officers (Telecommunicators).  This legislation was the result of over a decade of hard work in which our own Police Department Deputy Director Karl Hatton and our local State Senator Kevin Van De Wege played a significant role.    More on this in the coming weeks!
