Port Angeles Police Blotter

Posted on: July 12, 2022

[ARCHIVED] 6/14/22 What happened Thursday afternoon in Port Angeles?

PAPD Police Blotter 2

On Thursday, June 9, 2022 at about 1:30 PM Port Angeles Police Officers, in the photos below, responded to a report from a property owner near 15th and Cherry that there was an unwanted car on his property, and that the driver was slumped over the wheel. Additional data from dispatch informed the responding officers that the registered owner of the vehicle was wanted for a violent felony.
As the first officer arrived and got out of his car the suspect vehicle sped away at a high rate of speed and ran a stop sign. Because the officer had probable cause to believe that the driver was wanted for a violent felony, and the officer had reasonable suspicion to believe that the driver was under the influence, and the pursuit was approved and monitored by a supervisor, the officer was able to pursue even with the restrictions of new Washington State laws.
After a brief pursuit the driver stopped his car at an apartment building and ran inside. However, the occupants of the apartment were not willing to harbor the fugitive and encouraged the suspect to turn himself in to the officers that had arrived at the end of the pursuit, which he did. The suspect was booked into the jail. The prosecutor is reviewing the case.
