CASE UPDATE: After reviewing the case the prosecutor charged the suspect with Attempting to Elude a Pursuing Police Vehicle and Driving Under the Influence.
WHAT ELSE HAPPENED FRIDAY NIGHT IN PORT ANGELES?
On Saturday, July 2, 2022, at about 2:00 AM Port Angeles Police Officers attempted to stop an impaired driver downtown. Which resulted in a brief pursuit up Lincoln, through an alley and to the area of 9th and Cherry where the suspect crashed his car and was arrested after a brief foot pursuit and struggle.
The suspect was booked for Attempting to Elude a Pursuing Police Vehicle, Driving While Under the Influence, and Obstructing Law Enforcement. The prosecutor is reviewing the case. Prior to the new legislation PAPD engaged in about 4 or 5 vehicle pursuits each year. It has been nearly a year since the new legislation, and in that time PAPD has engaged in 5 vehicle pursuits.
