The Parks & Recreation Department is delighted to announce the reopening of the Shane Park Playground! After installing tiles and ensuring a safe environment, we're excited to welcome children and families back to the playground to play and enjoy!

This comes after a long and unexpected wait for playground tile repairs. In September 2022, the Parks & Recreation Department was required to close the playground for safety purposes. The safety issue involved the playground’s tiles, which were shrinking and creating gaps that had potential to cause injury.
While the City was prepared to expedite the work to replace the tiles, an unexpected glue supply shortage prevented the project from being complete before the rainy season. Sustainable weather, including temperatures over 40 degrees and without heavy rain for 1-2 weeks, is required to properly install the tiles.
Tile installation work began on May 22nd. Approximately two weeks were required to complete the work and allow the tile glue to cure.
