The Downtown Tree and Sidewalk Replacement Project is in the City's approved 2024-2029 Capital Facilities and Transportation Improvement Plan as project TR0918. The construction of this project will occur along Front Street, Railroad Avenue, Oak Street, and Laurel Street.
Planning for this project began in 2018. The goal of this project is to eliminate trip hazards along pedestrian facilities and beautify the downtown area. Repairs are scheduled for locations that have experienced the greatest settlement between brick pavers and concrete sidewalk including areas where tree roots are heaving the sidewalk and tree boxes. The work in this project will include replacement of street trees, brick pavers, concrete curbs, and concrete sidewalks at key locations downtown where pedestrian facilities have trip hazards. The street trees will be replaced by those shown below.
This project was advertised for construction bid on January 4, 2024. On February 6, 2024, City Council approved the contract award to Interwest Construction Inc. of Burlington, WA.
This project was successfully completed in March 2025.
